5 Secrets of Marketing that I Learnt Hard
When started out as an enthusiast business starter, I didn’t know what was ahead of me; at least not as much as it came to be. Every plan seemed in place, and although I found my business plan faultless, I believed there could be challenges though not as much as to make me change my plot. This is not strange with most people especially when it comes to the aspect of marketing that usually rocks new starters.
But as I later came to find out, the best way to learn what works for you and what doesn’t is by rolling up your sleeves and getting your hands dirty. Most people will argue that, but marketing is so important that everyone in your business, including your secretary should be doing. Here, am going to share you some secrets that transformed my tiny business struggling to pay its bills to a decent company with a bright future.
1. Get involved in marketing too
One of the mistakes business owners do is leave marketing to the marketing department. Hiring a marketing employee is not enough; you will have to put your time on selling the benefits of your products to your target customers every time you get that chance. Remember, as a small business owner, no one else knows your business better than you. You have the greatest passion for what you do, don’t you? And that’s the reason why your marketing energy should always be on the go. Eventually, even your marketing employees will emulate you.
2. Give marketing the lion share budget
Needless to say, if you find that your business is spending more money paying salaries than marketing your product, then you need to think again. Keep significant funds for marketing because you know you really need it. Marketing is about getting as many as your potential customers know about the existence and the benefits of your products. The more you reach out to, the more likely you are going to sell. Consequently, your profit will rise and you’ll be smiling all the way to the bank with a fatter earning. That’s all marketing is all about.
3. Try innovative ideas for marketing.
There are many times when an idea struck, and I shortly thought that it’s dumb. My marketing guy pushed for it, and the results turned out to be wonderful. Never be afraid of trying out a marketing strategy, especially when it comes to grabbing the attention of your target customers. People are lured by unique things. Try various innovative ideas and get people to ask for your products.
4. Never ignore local market
With proliferation of online marketing, most businesses are concentrating on selling to distant customers while leaving those in their yard needy. Buyers who are close to your store are more likely to walk in your shop and buy a product than a distant online buyer who has seen your products on the website. Serving the buyers in your market also gives you some guarantee of selling because most people trust what they can physically see. Those buyers walking by your store are very valuable to your business and you should not ignore them
5. Embrace technology
85% of my customers have known my products through the internet. Online marketing is a channel every business owner should embrace. It has huge potential when it comes to showcasing what your business is offering to a wide pool of customers and cutting down the marketing cost. In fact, the ratio of offline marketing budget that I used in my first online marketing campaign to that of online is unbelievable! Offcourse don’t forget to utilise professional seo company to optimize your website.
Most of small business starters are afraid of selling their products online. But like I said, don’t be afraid to try out anything sensible. Remember, business is about taking risks, and that’s what normally makes a difference.
