Domain Prices Hiked by 7 to 10 %
From today 1st of July 2010, every domain registrars have increased their price for Domain and this is specially applicable for .COM and .NET (top level). I love GoDaddy and they have also increased their price .COM and .NET by 7%, and .NET by 10%.
I have received below mail from GoDaddy
On July 1, 2010, VeriSign®, the registry for .COM and .NET, will increase prices – .COM will go up 7%, and .NET by 10%.
The increase will be passed to registrars like Go Daddy and then, unfortunately, to consumers like you.
As of July 1, we will be forced to raise registration and renewal* prices for these two popular top-level domains.
But unfortunality I was not able to renew my 5 domain yesterday and did it today only
I was too busy in preparing report for the client and when I relaised it was already 2 AM late night.

All About Domain Extension, com – org – net, Domain Details
A domain name is a unique name that identifies an internet site. The Universal Resource Locator or URL of your website basically consists of three parts, first, the prefix of the Internet, the World Wide Web, which is abbreviated by “www”; second, the main domain name, the term that you give your website; and third, the domain name extension, also known as the top level domain, the suffix that closes the address of your website.
The Big 3: .com, .net and .org
Although there has recently been some discussion about possible moves to restrict the .org top domain to non-profits, as was originally intended, the current situation is that all 3 of these domain name extensions are accessible to anyone, without restrictions, and are widely recognized around the world.
- com : Commercial — For businesses and commercial entities
- net : Networks — Reserved specifically for networks
- org : Organisations — Non Profit Organizations
- edu : Educational – Educational institutions like schools
- gov : US Government – Reserved for the United States Government
- int : International Organisations – Organizations that operate on an international level
- mil : US Dept of Defense – Unites States Army, Navy, Marines, Air force, and others.
- pro : Professionals – Professional websites and different types of services
- biz : Businesses – This one is used by businesses, but normally they just use .com
- info : Informational
Also every country has its own extension that no one else has access to. Of course they are too numerous to name here, but a few examples might be:
.us – United States
.ca – Canada
.fr – France
.hk – Hong Kong
.in – India
Hope this will give you fair idea about domain and its extension, so take some time and do research before you purchase a domain.
