The full form of SEO is Search Engine Optimization. Search engines are specialized websites designed to help people find the information they need quickly and easily on the internet.

While every individual search engine (e.g. Google, Yahoo! Ding/MSN, etc.) have different approaches to data gathering, they all perform basic three functions:

* Searching or surfing the internet based on important words.
* Keeping an index of what they find and where they found them
* Allow users to look for words or combinations of words on their site.

Typically, a search engine works by sending out a spider to fetch as many documents as possible. Another program, called an indexer, then reads these documents and creates an index based on the words contained in each document.
